Search and Rescue
This world is in a mess. I am just as unhappy as anyone else about the current situations we face daily. The anger, mob violence, threats, name-calling, and pure hatred is not how people are to behave. Jesus would never support such violent acts. After the ear of the servant Malchus was cut off, Jesus’ response is worth remembering.
Men think they have a handle on how to fix societal and global problems. Leaders, politicians, elites, the military, and governments can’t do it. The laws man enact can’t do it. There is nothing that any proposed new laws, regulations and other such plans will change. In conclusion, there is no way mankind can fix it. God is the only answer. As in the days of Noah, our planet is like a fast sinking ship, and the water is rising. Everyone thinks someone else should do something. Here is the hard truth though, the earth is NOT going to be ok! We need a rescuer. God has told us that this world is not our home. Furthermore, He has another place in the works for us.
Imagine a house on fire and how frantically the firemen attempt to rescue others; We are also on a mission to help lead others to safety. We should not be distracted by falling debris and smoke. Our job is to be pulling others from the midst of the fire. Many people have enjoyed many years of insulation from the fire, but it is not to last. “For here have we no continuing city, but we seek one to come.” Heb 13:14
What Are We to Do?
We are to tell others of the hope of salvation, have compassion on those who struggle and to do what we can to make a difference. Our job as God’s children has not changed. Most of all, these current events should only deepen our resolve to share the good news of the Gospel. It seems such a difficult prospect, that we are to be in the world but not of the world.
“Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh, and the lust of the eyes, and the pride of life is not of the Father but is of the world. And the world passeth away, and the lust thereof: but he that doeth the will of God abideth for ever”. 1 Jn 2:15-17
For we know that if our temporary, earthly dwelling is destroyed, we have a building from God, an eternal dwelling in the heavens, not made with hands. 2 Cor. 5:1
But as it is, they desire a better country, that is, a heavenly one. Therefore God is not ashamed to be called their God, for he has prepared for them a city. Hebrews 11:16
