Do you have some giants in your life? Do you feel defeated before you start? Does it seem impossible? Many obstacles that are in our life are from our own fear, or perceived failures before we even start. Or could it be a lack of faith?
When the Israelites were about to enter the promised land, God told them to send spies to check out the land and the people. Ten spies said, “We can’t!” When they compared the giants to themselves, the giants seemed large and impossible to beat.
Two spies said, “We can!” The other two spies—Caleb and Joshua—compared the giants to God, and then the giants seemed small and of no problem. We should go up and take possession of the land, for we can certainly do it. Numbers 13:30 “The Lord is with us,” they said. “Do not be afraid of them” (Num. 14:9).
Unbelief, lack of faith and fear block us from getting through the difficulties. Our mind preoccupies itself with thoughts of defeat, rolling over all the horrible outcomes and fretting over them.
Faith, though never ignores the dangers and problems of any circumstance, but looks away from them to God and counts on His presence and power.
What are your “giants”? A habit you cannot break? A temptation you cannot resist? A difficult marriage? A drug abuser or alcoholic? If we look to our difficulties, we will always be overwhelmed. Faith though looks AWAY from the overwhelming issue to the greatness of an ever-present, all-powerful God. So look to God when life comes against you with the worst you can imagine. God is there for you.
