In him was life; and the life was the light of men. And the light shone in darkness; and the darkness comprehended it not. John 1:4-5
Imagine being in a place where there is no light. I mean not just late at night but a darkness which is absent of any light. If you have been camping in a remote place on a cloudy night or maybe in side a cave, you might have some idea what I mean about darkness. Now throw in all sorts of obstacles to get around.
I saw an episode of Mythbusters where they were testing the theory about why pirates had an eye patch. (Some people think that pirates would keep one eye covered so that when they moved from the light above deck, to the darkness below deck, they would be able to adjust to the change by changing the patch from one eye to the other.) When the test subjects went into the dark room filled with obstacles they had quite a time trying to get around without falling down.
Here lies the point John is making that men were provided a light and refused to turn it on. Seems kind of ridiculous but I have to admit I spent a lot of years doing that very thing. I knew what I should do but refused to do it. I was too proud to simply turn on the flashlight in my hand and watch where I was going. It seems like some of my problem was my own pride, I found myself acting like a foolish child wanting to ignore my need for light.
I encourage you today to turn on the light in your life. Accept your need for Christ Lordship in your life. I can tell you from experience you will be surprised when Jesus Christ becomes the “Headstone of the Corner” and not the “Stone of Stumbling.”
God Bless, JB
